OUR MISSION
Harmony in Community: Create a vibrant and inclusive a cappella experience that enriches the lives of our singers and resonates with our local community. Through the power of our voices raised in song, we seek to inspire, uplift, and connect people, fostering a love for music, creativity, and shared expression. Committed to musical excellence, diversity, and camaraderie, we aim to create lasting memories and build bridges that transcend our differences.
How It All Started
Heart of Carolina A Cappella began in 2004 as a loose-knit gathering of skilled harmony enthusiasts seeking a new challenge. This core group wanted to build a solid program around commitment, participation and musical excellence. We let our friends and acquaintances know our plans and the response was very positive - we knew we had the basis for forming a chorus So, we opened the door!
We chartered with the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2006, competed in annual contests, and won several championships along the way - most recently the North and South Carolinas District Championship in March, 2023. We have fun, are working hard, and our membership continues to grow. We all love singing, and pour our all into making HCA the very best it can be!
We at HCA are especially proud to be the first BHS chorus in the Carolinas to welcome female members to sing with us. Beginning in 2017, we began actively recruiting female voices and expanding our repertoire to include arrangements in up to 8 parts. We're thrilled with the spectacular sound that our mixed-voice ensemble is producing, and have gained enough female members to begin a women's ensemble. With the men's ensemble continuing to hone its skills and improve its sound, Heart of Carolina A Cappella offers something to every singer, and provides great variety to our audiences!
HCA has a committed, strong core group of singers, a fresh approach, a wonderful repertoire and the desire to perform to a new standard of excellence.
If this sounds appealing to you, then you should consider auditioning!
We want you!! Come visit us on any rehearsal night - sight-reading is not required as long as you can harmonize and sing in tune!
